2. What is the focus of your trip?
Is your goal to relax or do you want lots of activity? Do you want to stay put or move around? Would you like to pursue any special interests or hobbies? Is it a family trip, where diversions for the children are needed?
3. When do you want to travel?
Plan dates - but with some flexibility. Prices change as a destination moves from its high season to a "shoulder" season and then low season. How long do you want to be away? What is the earliest date you could leave? What is the latest date you could return?
4. What is your budget?
Are you on a tight budget or is this a special occasion splurge? It needn't be hard and fast, but the options are too vast to approach without a figure or a price range in mind.
5. Are your expectations realistic?
What are you willing to compromsie in order to save money? If your budget is tight, decide whether it matters that your room is right on the beach or at the back of the hotel without any view.
